ACCSION : Advancing Large-Scale Carbon Capture in Cement Production

22 Oct 2025
Carbon Capture, Storage and Transport

The cement industry is a significant contributor to global CO2 emissions. To address this challenge, Air Liquide and Cementir Holding Group have partnered to develop a pioneering carbon capture project at Cementir's Aalborg plant in Denmark. This project, recently awarded funding from the European Union's Innovation Fund, aims to capture approximately 1,5 million tonnes of CO2 annually by 2030. This presentation will delve into the technical and strategic aspects of this large-scale carbon capture initiative, focusing on:

- The Technology: A detailed overview of CryocapTM, the innovative carbon capture technology being deployed, including its integration into the existing cement production process.
- Scale and Impact: The project's significant contribution to decarbonizing the cement sector and its potential for replication across other industrial sites.
- Collaboration and Partnership: The importance of strategic collaborations between industrial leaders like Air Liquide and Cementir in driving sustainable solutions.
- Challenges and Solutions: Addressing the technical and logistical challenges associated with large-scale carbon capture, including transportation and storage of captured CO2.
Future Outlook: The project's long-term vision and its contribution to achieving net-zero emissions targets.

This presentation will provide attendees with valuable insights into the practical implementation of large-scale carbon capture technology in a hard-to-abate sector, showcasing a tangible example of how industry and policy can work together to achieve significant emissions reductions.
