HOW TO DETECT INVISIBLE HYDROGEN FIRES
With hydrogen becoming an increasingly common alternative
fuel source, additional safeguards must be taken to protect
ships, plants and fueling stations from hydrogen fires.
Hydrogen fires are particularly hazardous because they:
- Are nearly invisible to the human eye, especially in daylight.
- Do not produce smoke - a typical indicator of a fire.
- Are not felt unless directly by the flame due to their low radiant heat.
Fike IR3-H2 flame detectors are designed to identify these
invisible hydrogen fires quickly and at long distances. Our
multi-spectrum process protects against false alarms which are
common in other flame detectors not engineered for hydrogen
fire detection.
Benefits of IR3-H2 Flame Detectors:
- Ultra-fast detection within 40 milliseconds for Hydrogen fires or explosions
- High sensitivity – Up to 100 ft. (30m)
- Triple-spectrum process protects against false alarms common in flame detectors not engineered for hydrogen
- Alarms, faults and other relevant events are logged to non-volatile memory
- Automatic internal self-test of window cleanliness and overall operation
The HD Camera Advantage
Hydrogen flame detectors may also be equipped with an additional HD camera for further reliability in certain applications. When connected to DVR/NVR, the IR3-H2-HD detectors provide live video of the area and make invisible hydrogen fires visible. By knowing exactly where the fire is located:
- The hazardous area may be avoided.
- First responders have accurate information for fire fighting.
- Post-fire investigation efforts are much more effective and possible causes of the fire are more easily identified.
