Hydrogen can be used in stationary or mobile applications. Essential for this is a safe storage of the hydrogen in robust and at the same time lightweight tanks. The Fraunhofer IPT is developing equipment and processes to manufacture fiber-reinforced pressure tanks. Both the manufacturing process and the choice of material play a decisive role here. Using an automated tape winding process, the Fraunhofer IPT manufactures components made of innovative fiber composites for the storage of hydrogen, primarily for automotive applications. In digitally supported processes, each pressure tank can be manufactured with the load-bearing capacity required by the customer.
