The press generates 800 tons of force on a footprint of 3,0 m width and 1,2 m in feed direction. This machine, patent pending, enables bipolar plates and other thin walled workpieces of up to 400 by 700 mm² to be manufactured with µm level precision due to the stiff design and active deflection compensation. Forming tools are mounted directly in the machine without the need for additional tooling and guides. The press allows for a max. stroke height of 20 mm and is able to reach at least 60 strokes per minute for a 4 mm stroke height. The design of press is highly scalable and is supposed to be integrated into flexible metal forming lines, without the need for additional foundations for the 1,8 m high press system. This is giving companies easier access to the hydrogen market. After extensive testing until spring of 2026 Fraunhofer IPT is aiming to commercialize the technology with component and press manufacturers.
