Babcock & Wilcox and Black Hills Energy have received a grant for a new blue hydrogen project

A new plant that will be dedicated to the production of clean hydrogen with carbon capture, will be set up in Wyoming. The new plant will be manufactured using B&W’s BrightLoop™ technology.

This new project has received a $16 million grant from Wyoming Energy Authority and this grant is intended to help fund the permitting, engineering and development activities for a facility which plans to conduct a large and various amount of operations. The plant, which will be based at Black Hills Energy’s Neil Simpson Power Plant in Gillette, Wyoming, will be focused on producing clean hydrogen, whilst simultaneously creating a carbon dioxide capture and sequestration system.

It is important that the new project will be manufactured with the use of B&W’s BrightLoop chemical looping technology, as this specific technology is part of the company’s ClimateBright™ suite of decarbonisation and hydrogen technologies. This technology is important because it specifically utilises a proprietary, regenerable particle which, through a demonstration, has been proven to successfully and efficiently separate carbon dioxide, whilst also producing hydrogen, steam, plus syngas.

Including B&W’s BrightLoop™ technology in the plant, which is a patented loop technology, means that the plant is able to produce clean energy from coal, at the same time as it is able to allow Co2 emissions to be sequestered, or alternatively, put to beneficial use. The use of this technology, will result in the plant being capable of producing fifteen tons of clean hydrogen every day.
